MSc Cloud Computing Student Scoops Top Awards

At the annual Institute Prizegiving event held at Cork Institute of Technology on Monday March 10th 2014, Arantxa Duque Barrachina was awarded the “Best Taught Masters Student” and the “Best Overall Student of the Year 2013″ award, a truly remarkable achievement.
Arantxa undertook her undergraduate degree in Computer Engineering at the Universitat Juame I ,Valencia, Spain. In 2007 she travelled to CIT as an Erasmus student and joined the BSc (Hons) in Software Development and Networking class. Returning to Spain in 2008 to finish her degree studies Arantxa received a first class honours award. After graduation, she decided to return to Cork to join VMware as a Technical Support Engineer in November 2009.
In 2011 she enrolled in the MSc in Cloud Computing programme at Cork Institute of Technology. Arantxa graduated with a first class honours award in May 2013 and was later awarded “Best MSc Student in the Department of Computing” as part of the CIT Faculty of Engineering and Sciences awards. The quality of her work has also been recognised internationally, a peer reviewed paper based on her MSc work has been published in the Springer Journal of Big Data and at the Collaborative European Research Conference (CERC) 2013.

Forbes lists CIT online MSc Cloud Programme

Forbes.com this month features CIT’s online MSc in Cloudforbes Computing programme, the only non-US programme listed in its roundup of online cloud computing programmes. The Forbes’s list of online course providers includes:
  • University of Maryland, College Park
  • Cork Institute of Technology

  • edX & UC BerkeleyX
  • University of Massachusetts – Lowell
  • Coursera & Vanderbilt University
  • MIT Open Courseware
  • Google Developer’s Academy
The MSc in Cloud Computing programme was developed by over 30 cloud computing industry specialists from across the globe. Subject matter experts from industry along with academic staff from CIT designed the programme and all taught modules. The Datacentre Networking module was one of many modules created in close cooperation with industry specialists. To create this module senior engineers from EMC, Cisco and VMware held regular meetings with CIT academic staff and through an iterative process developed a module that is both current and relevant. The reputation of this programme is built on this long established strong partners.

This programme will be delivered part-time over 18 months which is equivalent to three semesters. The full-time equivalent is designed to be delivered on campus over a 12 month period which is equivalent to two semesters. The full-time mode is not currently being offered.
